Washington University School of Medicine’s annual Martin Luther King Celebration Lecture is on Monday, January 16, 2012 at the Eric P. Newman Education Center. Our speaker this year will be Melissa Harris-Perry. Ms. Harris-Perry is professor of political science at Tulane University, where she is founding director of the Anna Julia Cooper Project on Gender, Race, and Politics in the South. Harris-Perry is author of the well received new book, Sister Citizen: Shame, Stereotypes, and Black Women in America. Professor Harris-Perry is also columnist for The Nation magazine, where she writes a monthly column also titled Sister Citizen and a contributor to MSNBC. Ms. Harris-Perry lecture topic is entitled Race, Politics and Community. There will be a book signing following the lecture.
