MoPIRG Internships

Internships with MoPIRG (Missouri Student Public Interest Research Group)

MoPIRG is a statewide, student-directed and student-funded organization
that gives students a vehicle to address real problems in their
communities.

Combining professional staff with the resources of college campuses,
MoPIRG provides students the opportunity to take education out of the
classroom, learn important skills, and make a direct impact on public
interest issues.

Whether crafting public policy that brings renewable energy technology
from the laboratory to the market or ensuring that ground-breaking academic
research reaches the public and policy-makers, MoPIRG projects have helped
college students serve their communities for the past 35 years.

We are currently working on the New Voters Project – a non-partisan
campaign to register and turn out over 1000 student-voters at Washington
University.  We are working within a coalition that includes the Brown
School Student Coordinating Council, College Democrats, College
Libertarians, Gephardt Institute for Public Service, Green Action, and the
Political Review.

MoPIRG interns are overseen by a faculty sponsor and a professional
organizer.  A typical internship covers a wide range of topics, including
campaign strategy, event planning, public relations, volunteer management
and current events.

We have plenty of opportunities, but here are a couple examples:

Organizing Interns:  coordinate a campaign on campus or in the community –
a process that includes building coalitions, recruiting volunteers,
coordinating events and developing campaign strategies

Media Interns:  develop persuasive messages, organize press conferences
and reach out to campus and community media outlets to educate the public
about critical issues
