Missouri House Democratic Campaign Committee Internship

Available: Fall Internship with the Missouri State House Democrat Campaign Committee (HDCC)

The HDCC is the chief political, fundraising, and electioneering arm of the Democratic caucus of the Missouri State House and its house candidates. We assist with all parts of the campaign process –this includes legislative research, fundraising and grass roots campaigning– and coordinate all Democratic house races in the state.

We are looking for undergraduates or recent graduates to intern for the November special election.  Interns will be focused on helping Paul Woody get elected in the 15th district, which is in the St. Louis area.  Internship responsibilities include assisting with candidate needs, fundraising, using NGP and other campaign software, writing various materials and canvassing.  Many of our interns have gone on to work on or manage campaigns and to work in other political organizations.

Anyone interested in Democratic politics or campaigns is encouraged to apply. Campaign or hands-on political experience is not required. The internship is unpaid but may be taken for political science course credit.

If interested, please e-mail your resume and a short statement of interest to jodymmurphy@me.com with the word “INTERN” in the subject line.

If you have any questions please call Jody Murphy at (405)202-4252.

The Avascent Group Recruiting Flyer

WUSTL Political Science Juniors and Seniors:
My name is Greg Allen, and I graduated from WashU in 2010 with a degree in Political Science. I now work for the Avascent Group, a Washington D.C. based consulting firm. We are kicking off our fall recruiting season and looking for WashU’s top juniors and seniors with backgrounds in Political Science, International Relations, Economics, and Business. If you, like me, never thought your Political Science degree could take you into consulting, consider that Avascent is a company every bit as interested in political and foreign policy outcomes as you are. Our clients include the top leadership of leading firms and government agencies in defense, space, aviation, energy, and related sectors. At Avascent, you can expect to immediately begin developing real expertise, interacting with clients, and producing research analysis that actually influences the real world outcomes you care about.

Avascent’s recruiting team will be on campus September 19 for the Career Center’s Meet the Firms event in the Knight Executive Education and Conference Center. Please see the attached flyer for event details. For more information or to get in touch, feel free to email me at gallen@avascent.com or visit www.avascent.com.

Peace and Security Fellowship in DC for College Graduates

I am pleased to send you information about the Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship, a competitive national program that provides college graduates the opportunity to work in Washington, DC, with one of twenty-seven participating public-interest organizations focusing on international security issues.  The program has awarded 134 fellowships since its inception in 1987 and is offered twice yearly, in the spring and fall.  It lasts from six to nine months and provides a stipend, health insurance, and travel costs to Washington.  The Scoville Fellowship does not award grant or scholarship money to students.

Scoville Fellows may undertake a variety of activities, including research, writing, education, and advocacy in support of the goals of their host organization and may attend coalition meetings, policy briefings, and Congressional hearings.  Fellows have written articles, blogs, fact sheets, letters to the editor, op-eds and reports, organized talks and conferences, and been interviewed as experts by the media.  Former Scoville Fellows work for U.S. and international NGOs, the Departments of State and Defense, members of Congress and academia, and attend graduate school in political science or international relations, following their fellowships.

Please encourage those interested in peace and security issues to visit our website at www.scoville.org.  The Scoville Fellowship is a small organization and we lack the resources to send staff to college career fairs and to post jobs on individual university websites.  Although the majority of Scoville Fellows have received college degrees in political science, government, international relations, history, or peace studies, we do not require any specific major.  There is no application form; application requirements are listed on our website, as are links to the websites of each of the participating groups and information on the work of current and former Scoville Fellows.  A flier about the program can be printed from http://www.scoville.org/flier.html  The next application deadline is October 3, 2011 for the spring 2012 fellowship.

All U.S. citizens, as well as non-U.S. citizens living in the U.S. who have an appropriate work permit, are eligible to apply; foreign nationals living outside the United States are not.

Feel free to contact me with any questions regarding the fellowship.

Sincerely,

Paul Revsine
Program Director

Kaplan FREE Practice Test Event – 10/8/11

Kaplan Test Prep is hosting our semi-annual FREE Practice Test for the MCAT, LSAT or GRE.  This semester we’re making the event more convenient than ever with two great options.  Our on site, campus event at Washington University is taking place on Saturday, Oct. 8th @ 10am in Seigle Hall.  To register for this free event, fill out the following web form at bit.ly/WashUPRACTICE.  Before the event, we will send you an email confirming your registration and providing you with instructions for checking in on Saturday morning.

Would you rather take the test from home, the library, a coffee shop, or even an open computer lab on campus? Then take your practice test live and online in our Classroom Anywhere environment, available from anywhere you have internet access.  In addition to the MCAT, LSAT and GRE, Kaplan is also offering the GMAT, DAT, OAT & PCAT practice tests and there are multiple dates available via Kaplan’s Classroom Anywhere environment.

As space is limited, these events do require pre-registration. However, a number of seats have been reserved for Wash U students.  To register for this free event, fill out the following web form at bit.ly/WashUPRACTICE and select your Anywhere practice test date.  Once registered, you will receive unique log-in information that you will use to enter Kaplan’s state-of-the-art, online classroom and begin the exam.

Each test will last up to 4 hours and will be proctored like an actual exam. The exams will be scored and results will be available the same day, with comprehensive feedback on your individual performance. After the test, one of our expert instructors will give a short workshop on test-taking strategies and will answer any questions that you may have.
This is a great opportunity for you to see how you might score on the real thing, and also to become familiar with the kinds of questions that will be on the real test. For most students, this exam will be a more realistic test-taking experience as you can practice in the format that mirrors most graduate school exams.

For additional information, visit us at www.kaptest.com/practice or call one of Kaplan’s test experts at 1-800-KAP-TEST.
This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in going to medical school, law school, graduate school or business school in the next few years!
