Israel Government Fellows Program

The Israel Government Fellows Program (IGF) is a Masa Israel Journey initiative of the Menachem Begin Heritage Center in Jerusalem. Endorsed by the Office of the Prime Minister of Israel, IGF offers outstanding and highly motivated young college graduates an experience at the heart of the Israeli government, combining internships in government offices with educational seminars, Hebrew language instruction, and travel throughout the country. IGF is the only existing program of its kind for non-Israelis to intern in the government and is available for applicants aged 22-30 with at least a bachelor’s degree. This year we have also added a track for Research and Diplomacywhere fellows will be able to intern in Israeli research institutes, think tanks, and public diplomacy organizations.

Here are just a few examples of current placements:

– Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Organizations Dept.

– Ministry of Defense, Civil Administration of the West Bank

– Ministry of Justice, Anti-Terror Financing and Money Laundering Dept.

– Ministry of Industry, Trade & Labor, Legal Dept.

IGF provides participants with invaluable work experience and leadership training, and is a unique opportunity for aspiring Jewish leaders to develop their abilities while contributing to Israeli politics and society, learn about Israeli history and culture, and strengthen their connection to the Jewish state.

Comprehensive details are available on our website: http://www.igf.org.il or on our facebook page.

Exploring America (AMCS 479) Information Session – 3/9 – Explore America and earn course credit!

Consider joining the American Culture Studies program this summer while we explore America!

On Location: Exploring America (L98 AMCS 479) is a popular travel-based seminar that is open to both undergraduates and graduates from across fields and schools. The topic changes annually, but the course is always multidisciplinary and location-specific, and involves travel to a wide range of cultural sites.

The On Location model is both interactive and collaborative, focusing on objects that cannot be fully grasped without conversation with different faculty, experts in the field, and others, including those with a local perspective. In effect, students are invited to become in-the-field observers – and sometimes participants – as they seek to understand not only complex cultural phenomena but the many ways they have been interpreted in specific times and places.

Summer 2011
L98 AMCS 479
On Location: Exploring America – The Landscape of Remembrance in U.S. Culture
May 23 – June 10, 2011

  • Travel to major American cities
  • Earn course credit
  • Explore a new lens for studying culture
The study of contemporary cultural memory may interest political science students as a hands-on opportunity to observe how political realities shape the way that we, as a culture, frame our own collective memory of the major events, people, and physical places that characterize our political and social history. We will ask critical questions about how and why something is remembered, and explore the social, political, and historical factors that help us to explain the phenomenon of “memoralization.”  We will ground our exploration in a site-specific study of memorials in and around St. Louis, Washington D.C., and New York City.

Want more information?  Come to the On Location Information Session on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. in DUC 236.  Or, if you are unable to attend this session, email amcs@artsci.wustl.edu to express your interest and to receive course registration & planning updates.
