National Jewish Democratic Council Internship

The National Jewish Democratic Council (NJDC) – the voice of Jewish Democrats – is looking for college students to intern in our Washington, DC office this summer. We have two types of internships available this summer – Communications and Political Fundraising/Development. Both of the internships can be either full or part time and NJDC staff will sign off to ensure that students receive credit with their universities.

NJDC offers a fast-paced office environment and the chance to work and learn at the intersection of the American Jewish community and the Democratic Party. Students who complete our internships will gain experience in political advocacy, nonprofit operations, and working at a campaign-style tempo.

One of the luxuries of our internships is that interns do not spend the bulk of their time making copies, answering the phones, and running errands. Instead, our interns play an active role in our daily operations and are a major asset to our staff.

Students who intern in our Communications Department will be responsible for drafting and editing press releases, performing research, and will have the opportunity to produce original blog content under their own names, in addition to other responsibilities.

Students who intern in our Development Department will assist our Development team with event planning, donor research, and preparing fundraising materials.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. I can be reached by email at davidstreeter@njdc.org or by phone at (202) 216-9060.

Thank you very much,

David Streeter

County Assessor Campaign Internship

Jake Zimmerman is running for County Assessor (www.jakezimmerman.org) and his campaign has openings for some student interns in preparation for the election April 5th.  We currently have spots for students interested in finance, volunteer outreach, and general campaign operations. Duties will vary based on their interests, but will include some administrative work. We will of course try and keep this at a minimum. Interns will also phonebank with volunteers and possibly canvass on the weekends. Because the campaign is on a smaller scale, students will get a good sense of the inner workings of a campaign.

We are very flexible with hours and time commitment. We are in the office 7 days a week so its a great opportunity for students who are busy during the week.  Please let me know if I can provide additional details. If students have additional questions, they can contact me directly at jordanblase@gmail.com.

MATCH Teacher Residency

The most selective teacher prep program in the nation (even more so than Teach For America) is called MATCH Teacher Residency, in Boston. Basically, we give recent college graduates one year of incredibly intense training designed to make them unusually effective rookie teachers. We then help them find positions in high-need schools, and continue to support them as they begin their careers in the classroom.

All the info is here: http://www.matchschool.org/matchcorps/teacher.htm.

Do you know a few senior Political Science majors who might want to teach in the inner-city, and who have demonstrated unusual grit and determination? If so, please forward this info along to them?

Best wishes,

Colin Bottles
